Corneal Transplant Surgery
Replacing damaged corneal tissue to restore clarity of vision.
A corneal transplant replaces diseased or scarred corneal tissue with healthy donor tissue. It is considered when the cornea has become clouded or irregular enough to limit vision and other treatments are unsuitable. Depending on which layers are affected, the procedure may be a full-thickness graft or a partial-thickness lamellar technique. Partial-thickness approaches generally recover more quickly. Rejection remains a risk for the life of the graft and is managed with long-term steroid drops and regular review. Your surgeon will explain the signs of rejection and what to do if they appear.
